Chiefs Superfan Sentenced in Bank Robberies

Eric Conn, a Des Moines man and prominent Chiefs superfan, has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for his role in three bank robberies in the Des Moines metro area.

Conn, who is known as "ChiefsAholic," was arrested in January 2023 after a high-speed chase with police. He was charged with three counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery.

Conn pleaded guilty to the charges in May and was sentenced on Monday, August 14, 2023, to 12 years and seven months in prison. He will also have to serve three years of supervised release after his prison sentence is completed.

According to court documents, Conn robbed three banks in the Des Moines metro area in a span of just over two months. The first robbery occurred on November 15, 2022, at a bank in Urbandale. Conn entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The second robbery occurred on December 12, 2022, at a bank in Clive. Conn again entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The third robbery occurred on January 12, 2023, at a bank in Des Moines. Conn entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. When the teller refused, Conn brandished a gun and threatened to shoot her. The teller gave Conn an undisclosed amount of cash, and he fled the scene.

Conn was arrested after a high-speed chase with police following the third robbery. He was taken into custody without incident.

Conn's sentencing comes as a relief to law enforcement and the community. "This individual terrorized our community for months," said Des Moines Police Chief Dana Wingert. "We are grateful that he is now behind bars and can no longer harm anyone else."
